Williamson turns down New Zealand contract

Kane Williamson resigned as the Black Caps' white-ball captain after declining a new central contract with New Zealand Cricket.

The centrally contracted players in New Zealand must be available to participate in the national T20 Super Smash competition as well as international cricket.

It is anticipated that the event will take place in January, coinciding with several other franchise leagues.

Williamson seemed destined to play overseas, as New Zealand's international cricket schedule for that month is somewhat light.

"I'm really excited about and want to continue helping the club advance across the forms. supporting," he remarked.

"Unfortunately, I am unable to accept a central contract offer as I am pursuing an overseas opportunity during the summer in New Zealand."

"I cherish being a member of the New Zealand national team, and I still want to give back to the team."

"My life outside cricket has changed however - spending more time with my family and enjoying experiences with them at home or abroad is something that’s even more important to me."

According to a New Zealand Cricket (NZC) announcement, Williamson may eventually accept a central contract.

"This is a good way to help keep Kane in the international game so that he continues to play a major role for the Black Caps - both now and in the future," NZC CEO Scott Weenink stated.

the upcoming years.

"While NZC strongly prefers to choose centrally contracted players for the Black Caps, we are glad to make an exception for our all-time best batter, particularly given his continued dedication to the team.

"I know it sounds a bit counterintuitive, but I'm very encouraged by this development."

In December, England will go to New Zealand for three Test matches.

Williamson made the decision to resign as white-ball captain following New Zealand's elimination in the T20 World Cup's opening round.

Since 2014, this is the first time the Black Caps have not advanced to the World Cup's semifinals in the T20 or 50-over formats.
