Pesco raises alarm as more feeders forced to resume supply by PTI

 **Rewritten Article:**

**PESHAWAR:** Despite warnings from the utility company about potential damage to the power transmission infrastructure, national and provincial lawmakers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continued their forceful entries into grid stations on Thursday, reactivating power supplies amid ongoing disputes over loadshedding.

The provincial home and tribal affairs department has instructed district administrations to ensure no unscheduled power outages occur.

This escalation follows renewed tensions between KP and the Centre regarding loadshedding, which had appeared resolved last month but resurfaced this week after KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and several lawmakers from his party intervened at grid stations across the province during the Eid holidays.

They forcibly restored power in areas where the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) was implementing loadshedding due to high line losses.

Now, Pesco has issued a warning to the Centre, stating that activating electricity to all high-loss feeders could potentially lead to a collapse of the power distribution system.

In a letter dated June 19 addressed to the Managing Director of the Power Planning and Monitoring Company, the CEO of Pesco reported that elected representatives had forcefully activated supply to 99 feeders across 15 grid stations on June 18. The next day, an additional 54 feeders from five grid stations were similarly activated against operational guidelines.

The letter cautioned that such actions could overload the system, potentially causing prolonged electricity disruptions. It also highlighted safety concerns, noting that mishandling of equipment by unauthorized personnel could lead to equipment failures.

Despite efforts to involve the police and initiate legal actions against the lawmakers involved, no FIRs have been filed as requested by Pesco.

**PTI lawmakers' involvement**

Following the letter, PTI lawmakers and their supporters further escalated the situation by entering three additional grid stations in Peshawar on Thursday and restoring power to 19 feeders.

According to Pesco, Shandana Gulzar, MNA from Peshawar’s NA-30 constituency, and Samiullah Khan, MPA from Peshawar, were among those involved in reinstating power supply at Sheikh Muhammadi and Mattani grid stations.

During these incidents, Pesco staff were reportedly ignored and prevented from executing necessary operational measures.

Earlier in the day, Haji Fazal Elahi, MPA from Peshawar’s PK-84 constituency, led a group of protesters to the Rehman Baba grid station, where power supply was reactivated on several feeders with high line losses attributed to electricity theft and outstanding bills.

**District administrations' involvement**

Meanwhile, district administrations in various areas convened meetings with Pesco and Tribal Areas Electric Supply Company (Tesco) officials to address concerns and strategize on minimizing unscheduled power disruptions.

In Mardan, Minister for Food Zahir Shah Toru and Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Fayyaz Khan Sherpao participated in a meeting emphasizing zero tolerance for unannounced loadshedding.

Similar meetings were held in Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and Lower Dir, where local officials instructed Pesco to ensure equitable power distribution based on bill recovery rates and operational needs.

In Dera Ismail Khan, Pesco officials assured that loadshedding schedules were being adhered to as per established guidelines.

**Conclusion**

The ongoing standoff underscores the challenges in power management between KP and the Centre, highlighting the need for coordinated efforts to maintain electricity stability while addressing legitimate grievances through lawful channels.
