Rare cross-party consensus backs CPEC, stronger China ties as Pakistan hosts 3rd JCM

 



At the third meeting of the Pakistan-China Joint Consultative Mechanism (JCM) of Political Parties on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in Islamabad on Friday, a rare display of political unity was displayed.

Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC) and member of the Communist Party Central Committee Liu Jianchao, who is currently visiting Pakistan for three days, co-chaired the CPEC Pakistan-China Political Parties Forum, where the political unity across parties was demonstrated.


The JCM of Political Parties on CPEC was founded in 2019 and serves as a regular platform for interaction between Pakistani political parties and the Communist Party of China. Prior gatherings took place in Beijing on March 19, 2019, and on August 20, 2020, virtually.

Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Science and Technology Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, PTI Senator Ali Zafar, PPP Senator Hina Rabbani, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl chief Fazlur Rehman, and other prominent political figures were present.


The leaders reaffirmed their steadfast resolve to defeat such evil plans in order to further develop the bilateral partnership between China and Pakistan.

DPM Dar emphasized in his opening remarks the significance that CPEC has played as a catalyst for Pakistan's socioeconomic development.

"Development projects have not only helped create mass employment opportunities in Pakistan, but they have also helped alleviate chronic load-shedding issues," he stated.

The DPM recalled that during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's recent visit to China, both nations reached a consensus to carry out the second phase.of CPEC and agreeing to the terms governing outsiders' involvement in the initiative.


Reiterating that Pakistan was dedicated to fostering people-to-people connections, he said that both nations have supported one another "through thick and thin."


Dar went on to say that CPEC was a key component of the strategic and economic engagement between Pakistan and China and that there was "complete unanimity" regarding its importance due to the fact that it accelerated Pakistan's efforts to achieve socioeconomic prosperity and regional connectivity.


He stated that both nations were experiencing a first-rate second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), with a focus on industry, mining and mineral resources, information technology, agriculture, and industry.

Liu stated in his remarks that the agreements reached during PM Shehbaz's "very successful" visit offered the two nations a chance to strengthen their relations in order to bringregarding desired alterations.


He claimed that the resolve of the leaders of both nations gave a "clear message to the world that the friendship between China and Pakistan is unbreakable."

Liu described party-to-party connections as a crucial component of bilateral relations and stated that it was "high time" for Pakistan's political parties to use their knowledge of one another's development philosophies to help convert the blueprint into reality.

In addition to offering scholarships and vocational training to Pakistani youngsters, he declared that the IDCPC would invite 300 legislators from Pakistan to China in three years, arguing that the two peoples' affinity was not commensurate with their unwavering friendship.

Speaking to the JCM, Gilani stated that all political parties supported CPEC since it encouraged cooperation in a number of other areas, including information technology, health, and education.its assistance in resolving the nation's power problems.


In addition to fortifying ties in the tourist and education sectors, he urged all parties to collaborate for a resilient and environmentally friendly future.

Sadiq said that the Parliamentary Committee on CPEC kept a close eye on the administration and regularly updated Parliament on the status of the projects funded by the initiative.

He reiterated Pakistan's people's determination to build on previous achievements and see to it that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) realizes its full potential.

Iqbal reiterated a similar position, saying that all political groups were united in their support of China and the CPEC and were dedicated to bringing the improved version back to life, even in the face of political difficulties.

The minister expressed gratitude to China for adding freshroutes within the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) that were oriented toward exports, equity, empowerment, the environment, and energy.


In the meantime, Fazl reaffirmed Pakistan's support for Taiwan and thanked the Chinese leadership for its unwavering support of the Kashmir cause.

He advocated for the completion of the postponed CPEC projects and stated that both nations shared the same opinions on a number of regional and local issues.


Pakistan occupies a unique position in China's foreign policy.
Liu had previously stated that China, being its steadfast ally and trusted sibling, gave Pakistan a distinct position in its foreign policy and aimed to cement their strategic alliance.

Liu expressed satisfaction with the CPEC's steady progress in a meeting with DPM Dar, adding that China would extend fullcollaboration with Pakistan to ensure that all new and continuing CPEC projects are implemented on schedule.

Furthermore, he praised the nation's political parties for their unwavering backing of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and friendship.

He reaffirmed China's strong willingness to strengthen connections between the political parties of Pakistan and the Communist Party of China.

DPM Dar recognized the beneficial impact of CPEC on Pakistan's socioeconomic advancement and prosperity.

He emphasized that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the initiative's centerpiece project, had fundamentally changed the country's energy security.

Dar praised the two nations' near-unanimous political agreement on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and reaffirmed Pakistan's unwavering commitment to building on the initiative's accomplishments and superior Phase II development.

Both parties decided to keep the momentum going.of high-level interactions and to improve communication even further on crucial local and international topics.


Army Chief promises complete backing for the effective execution of CPEC
At the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, Liu also had a meeting with General Syed Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

According to a news statement from the Inter Services Public Relations, they assessed progress on CPEC and talked on issues of mutual interest, like as regional peace and stability.

Reiterating Pakistan's steadfast dedication to the strategic alliance with China, the COAS promised complete backing for the prosperous execution of CPEC.

Liu made it clear that his journey to Pakistan was a follow-up to the fruitful conversations that the leaders of the two nations had earlier this month in China.

He underscored the importance of the long-standing fraternalrelations between the two countries and conveyed happiness with the advancements made on the CPEC while reaffirming China's commitment to its prompt completion.

Liu also praised Pakistan's efforts to uphold peace and stability in the area and acknowledged the Pakistan Army's assistance in ensuring the security of Chinese nationals and projects in the nation.
